MODERN WARFARE

This game is really impressive. The presentation is outstanding, and I am going to go so far as to say that it is the best looking game on the XBox 360 (yes, more so than Gears of War or Halo). Infinity Ward is just an amazing studio that does a great job narrating short moments in the middle of all the action. The different death animations add a lot of variety, and even if a bunch of things are canned, it totally doesn't matter... the player just has a completely immersive, satisfying, and fun experience.

As an added bonus, the game is going to be on STEAM! I'm starting the download this week (being released on the 12th on Steam), but it's out on the Xbox 360 as of today.

HELLGATE: LONDON

I just bought this off Amazon last night for $40 shipped (no tax or shipping), but it went back up to $47 today.

I gotta say I'd personally be embarrassed if I was responsible for shipping this game. It's getting slammed in reviews (74% on gamerankings.com, 60 from GameSpy, 68 from IGN, etc), and that's not too far off from what I would have rated the Beta. Unfortunately, not a whole lot changed from the Beta to Release (understandable since that was only a month and a half ago). The overall polish level, bugs, art style, and voice-over, is just about Alpha quality. This is probably about where Blizzard would decide that there was still a couple years left to go, or can it outright. It sounds really harsh, but from an outside perspective, there is very little excuse.

Flagship Studios seemingly got off to a fairytale start: taking the core of the Diablo 2 team, huge amounts of funding, and very little interference from the publisher. I comiserate with a few buddies that I have over there, because I know that despite your best efforts, there are often things that snowball outside of your sphere of influence and control. I had heard that some of the leadership was cocky and over-confident, which would be unfortunate if it were true.

This said, I know I'm still going to have a lot of fun with the game, which is all that matters. It's why they earned my moneys. I played this game for 6 hours standing up at E3 last year, so I want this game to be really good... update to come when I finally play the Release version.
